Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share a special card that I made a few days ago. We were requested to make a birthday card for a little boy who had themed party – Little Magician! Just like the previous order (Little Indian birthday card)we had no dies or stamps on hand that were related to the theme! But once again that was no problem!
The focal point
So how do you start a card from scratch when you have nothing in your stash to inspire you? The answer is Google! In the hunt of inspiration I went online and googled “little magician” images. Then I started sketching the focal point on a piece of paper to see what would work best for the card. So a hat, a couple of bunny ears and a magician stick would work just fine! And a banner for the sentiment of course!
The next step was to bring these elements into life. So having my sketches as a guide a cut all the little pieces from coloured cardstock. These handmade elements will be the focal point of the card.I’ve coated the magician stick with a thin coat of wink of stella in black to make it sparkle!
Now that my focal point is ready is time to work on my background. I wanted to play with patterns and shapes so I decided to go for a very simple but impressive technique that I first saw a few years ago on a video by Kristina Werner. I grabbed some washi tapes and a piece of paper and I created a stripe pattern by putting the one next to the other. Then I die-cut a star out of these pattern that I have created and the result was really satisfying I must admit! Now a have a beautiful star ready to use on my background!
Since I have used a glittery washi tape on the star and the Wink of Stella on the focal point, I decided to go for some glitter on the sentiment too! So I heat embossed the “Happy Birthday” (a stamp by Hobby Craft and my favorite VersaMark ink) using WOW Embossing Powder in Metallic Silver Sparkle Embossing Glitter. Now all that is left to do is to arrange everything on the card.
I decided to pop everything on foam adhesive because I love dimension on my cards! I was really happy with the result and really proud that I created it using minimal supplies! As I said before this is my favorite part in card-making! When it come to creating the sky is the limit!
So thank you all for stopping by! We hope you enjoyed coming along with us creating this unique card! If you did please leave a comment below or share a photo of your creation! We hope to see you soon on our next post! Until then…happy crafting!
